Heritage Repointing in Buninyong
A wall in Buninyong may not be plain face brick. The City of Ballarat's precinct statement for Buninyong (HO 181) says its cultural and community buildings are generally brick or bluestone, sometimes rendered or over-painted, so the first job is to find out what each wall actually is before any joint is touched.

Heritage Repointing around Buninyong
The township sits south-east of the city on the Midland Highway, and its precinct statement, in the City of Ballarat's Heritage Precincts Statements of Significance, written in 2006 and revised in August 2014, an Incorporated Document in the Ballarat Planning Scheme, notes that one stone building survives beside the brick police station. That is the statement's typical description of the precinct, not a survey of any street, and it does not say which walls carry paint or render.
On a painted or rendered brick wall, the joints, the paint and the render are three different surfaces, and bluestone another. Ask the provider what the wall is made of, what mortar, brick or stone the repair is matching, and how the old paint or render is dealt with. The Heritage Council of Victoria's code advises seeking advice from someone experienced in historic masonry on condition and repair needs.

Permits and City of Ballarat rules
Whether a repointing job at an address here needs a permit depends on the property, not the suburb. This page does not say whether any address is in a Heritage Overlay or on the Victorian Heritage Register; the City of Ballarat's Heritage Advisors can say, and Heritage Victoria for a Register place.
